gosh, it’s springtime!

It’s already the end of October and I really don’t know where the time has gone.

The past couple of months have been both hideous and enlightening…..broke up with partner of fifteen months, travelled interstate to look after my ill mother, had a couple of REALLY confronting things happen at work, have been trying to be as supportive as possible to my dearest best friend, living with a seventeen year old boy/man trying to let him find his way in the world……

And there have been times when I would have, could have easily locked myself in my home and not ventured out for a very long time. But, life doesn’t let you do that.

So now, a couple of months have passed. Spring is here. I have taken some time out and regained some perspective.

Sun kissed days, blue skies, happy dog walks along the beach can do that….and being kind to yourself (now that IS a good one!)

My best of bestest friend is in Melbourne at the moment and just rang to tell me the exciting news that she had just met Pip from Meet Me at Mike’s.

Thought i’d try and live vicariously through her for a moment and did the next best thing which is logging onto the meet me at mike’s blog where i discovered Pip’s “here’s what i’m up to” list………and here is my version!

Even though it is raining again

And gray and cold, so cold.

I got to sleep in

And have been left undisturbed (and it is now almost 2pm!)

Am about to go and make poached eggs for a late lunch

And just purchased two of these in white

Planning my vegetable garden with the help of www.thelostseed.com.au a Tassie based business that has the most fantastic array of heirloom seeds
Drinking cafe au lait
Eating Menz choccy frogs……i knew about their choccy snakes and of course was raised on fruchocs. Choccy frogs….a delicious discovery!
Watching a bit of footy – poor old Richmond, just when you think they may have legs, they lose the plot completely
Re-read Inside out, as you do
Did a spot of online shopping. I can’t wait to get my parcel!

Whatever will tomorrow bring?

This is the before shot of my lounge room. Carpet being laid as we speak (by a really grumpy man!) What a shame because the guys at the carpet store were super nice and helpful – and now I have this swearing, smoking neanderthal stomping around. I mean really , I get it, you aren’t happy…..doesn’t mean you have to drop EVERYTHING from a height on to the floor so it makes the loudest noise possible. I KNOW YOU ARE IN MY HOUSE!!!!!! Jeez! Once he has finished and gone never to return I will play some really cool and groovy music, open all the windows and let the fresh air swirl his negative vibes out……

Then begin to place the furniture according to my carefully thought out plan………..what fun!

rainy days…

Today is one of the greyest, rainiest, chilly days I have ever experienced. There is a strange stillness even though it is windy and raining and the white of the ocean’s waves are pounding to the shore. I suppose it is mid-winter after all. The PERFECT day for cozying up on the coach reading, making soup and snoozing…

And as for getting things done – well I am a little bit proud

carpet the living room floor (taking samples back to the carpet people today with a decision which has only taken me one year) BOOKED TO BE LAID NEXT FRIDAY
get a tv arial installed so i can move the furniture around to how I always wanted it
finish the back and side fence (Sunday’s project) so they are no longer falling down and providing an escape route for the dogs BACK FENCE COMPLETED
build a couple of platforms in the backyard to make the spaces more useable HAVE SOURCED OLD PALLETS (FOR FREE) TO CREATE A COMPLETELY RECYCLED DECK
get rid of the mould that has suddenly appeared downstairs and on the upstairs window ledges (Saturday’s project) DISCOVERED (AFTER LIVING HERE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS) THAT WE HAVE UNDERFLOOR HEATING DOWNSTAIRS…no comment!
re-upholster my divine 1880 baronial oak chair AT THE UPHOLSTERER AS WE SPEAK

getting things done

I have so many things around the house that need to be done:

carpet the living room floor (taking samples back to the carpet people today with a decision which has only taken me one year)
get a tv arial installed so i can move the furniture around to how I always wanted it
finish the back and side fence (Sunday’s project) so they are no longer falling down and providing an escape route for the dogs
build a couple of platforms in the backyard to make the spaces more useable
get rid of the mould that has suddenly appeared downstairs and on the upstairs window ledges (Saturday’s project)
re-upholster my divine 1880 baronial oak chair

she’s off to the upholsterer this morning and will return to me covered with a kangaroo skin!

It is FREEZING here today with a bitter, bitter wind and now I am off to start my day!

it’s been a while

Life has been getting in the way! Apart from having the mother of all flu’s – now in week FIVE – i have been to Hobart with my best pal M where she had the most delicious stall at the Mothers Market. It has been a long time since i have met so many lovely women. The gorgeous Deb and Reece from Verna + Hilda and the super delightful Bek from Cherish by Bek Burrows. Am looking forward to the next one coming up in September.

One of the enormous bonuses of having such a talented friend is that you are given (with love) really beautiful things…like this gorgeous green scarf!

It is so grey, rainy and chilly here at the moment – it is mid winter after all – sometimes it is hard to get the chill out of my bones. The odd glimpse of sun is pure joy, and having the warmth of this scarf around my neck…

I have had such a blah kind of week…. I started out just being glum and by midweek I had a full blown vomit/bug. NOICE! My head is hurting because I keep blowing my nose, my skin has broken out and is dry, my chest hurts because I am coughing so much, I can’t sleep properly because I get fever at night. Which means it is the perfect time for a GRATITUDE RAMPAGE! I was introduced to the concept by my coach earlier in the week so here goes, all guns blazing:

i am grateful for…….

the view of the ocean from my window

the banana cake with chocolate chips i just baked (smells divine)

my dogs Jimmy and Max who are just so cool

the job interview my son has this Wednesday

the warmth from the sun today as i lay in the hammock

my mum, my man and my best friend that all care very much about me

the wool in my ugg boots sooo soft on my toes

the handmade scarf my BF made me, warm around my neck

the sky at sunset yesterday

that the girl at woolies did not sell me an undercooked roast chook this morning

that i found a block of Green & Blacks maya gold in my box of paid bills

that when i pay my tax bill this week i have more than enough money to cover it

that i have finally decided on the carpet for my lounge room and am going to order it this week

my very comfortable bed

the most fantastic bubble bath i had Thursday

that I have such fantastic people in my coaching triads

that i can watch the spirit of tasmania on the horizon line as it arrives from Melbourne, then leaves again from Devonport

that i can watch one of my favourite films on tv tonight – Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House. (The paint colour scene is a classic.)

my stars for next week are super fantastic (thanks to mystic medusa)

I feel better already……
